Our Programme

Storytelling workshops with practical activities & resources that you can use in your setting.

About our storytelling workshop programme

Expressive Explorers deliver a series of storytelling workshops to children throughout the year.   The workshops give your practitioners and teachers new, exciting materials and resources to work with in your setting.

We have designed brightly coloured A1 Story Map posters to accompany each story.  These work as a visual aid to both the children and the storyteller.  By taking away the book and using the pictures as a prompt, both children and staff can immerse themselves in acting out the stories and exploring the characters.  You will find children will want to return to the poster to either tell the story themselves, or speak about the individual characters.  Story Map Posters are printed on PVC so they are hard wearing, reusable and can easily be stored for use in future years.

Each resource pack includes a guideline script; you do need to be an actor to use this script.  It is only a suggested wording and does not need following rigidly.  Use the pictures on the Story Map more as a prompt than the script.  The activities throughout the are also only suggestions, you may wish to make up your own actions and give the children the opportunity to come up with their own ideas.

    Art Resources

We provide your setting with a pack of resources that meet as many areas of the curriculum as possible; the EYFS links are included in the resource book.  Using the frames provided, you can send a piece of the children's artwork home.  Any additional items you may need should be easily obtainable.  You may have additional ideas for resources that link to each story.

At the end of the day, you will receive a pack of resources, including an A1 Story Map to put on display.  This has been designed to aid story telling without a book, giving your practitioners more freedom to move around the room.  The pictures are clear and bright, to act as a prompt as to what happens next. You will also find that the children like to visit the story map, discuss scenes and retell the story in their own way.
